Just because you're an American doesn't make you special

Listen, I am patriotic as hell. This nation has, in my opinion, to be the greatest nation that has ever existed, because we are based on an extraordinary document that is filled with brilliant ideas on how a nation should be run.
But there is nothing about being born in America that makes you special. I'm sorry, but there really isn't. The placement of your birth means nothing on what kind of person you are, or how you should be treated.
And the House bill that makes illegal immigration a felony disgusts me. It absolutely makes me sick.
Mexico is a shit hole because we made it a shit hole. I hate to sound like your typical college student, but it's true. Mexico offers American companies tax free land for several years to encourage American businesses to come in and hire Mexican workers, which they do, until the tax free years end, at which point the company pulls out, completely disrupting the economy, and leaving entire areas unemployed. Think of Flint, Michigan happening regularly throughout that country. There isn't a fucking one of you who wouldn't try to get in here if you were born in that situation.
Unfortunately, it's not as simple as blaming the corporations for doing what they are doing. The concept of a corporation is that it is an entity that exists just for business and profit. There's no room in corporations for morals. It sucks, but as soon as one corporation starts acting morally, they will be run out of business in the blink of an eye.
So who do we fault? The situation, and those who have had the ability to change it, and not done so. The problem isn't corporations taking tax free land, the problem is the fact that Mexico has to give away tax free land.

We spend BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars on protecting the Mexican/American border, and a mere FRACTION of that protecting the Canadian/American border. This is because of the shithole that we've turned Mexico into. If diverted, say, 3 or 4 billion dollars from border security on the Mexican/American border and gave it to proven charities with minimal administration costs, and set them loose on fixing Mexico, or even if we just diverted that money into revitalizing Mexico, and helping them find a way to get markets that would thrive down there up and running, we would not only be doing the right thing, but we'd save BILLIONS of dollars over the course of just a few years.

But why don't we do this? Quite simply, it's stacking the deck in favor of the powerful corporations. Now I am all in favor of laissez faire economics, as I'm sure you can tell, but using the law to help corporations and hurt both legal and illegal workers in this country is unjustifiable, and it's certainly not laissez faire!
Think of what illegal immigration legislation does to the labor supply curves. First of all, it creates two markets, one of people who will do a job, and another of people who will do the exact same job, but for less. So immidiately the people competing in the legal market are fucked. Then the labor supply curve for the illegal workers has been made almost completely elastic at a low wage, since essentially to get into the market they have to stipulate that they are willing to except less than the minimum wage, and far less than a living wage. And the end result is the corporation is able to get away with paying far less than the labor would be valued on the open market.

And it's disgusting, and I can't believe the Republican party, a party that is supposed to be the Christian party is doing quite possibly the least christian thing that they could possibly do. They are actively fighting to hurt the poor and help the rich. Yeah, I'm sure Jesus is really loving you guys right now.

I understand the blue collar workers, who are also being fucked by this, seeing illegal immigrants as the problem, but they aren't. The problem isn't the churches helping illegal immigrants with food and shelter once they get in. The reason you're getting fucked isn't because of the immigration part of illegal immigration, but instead by the illegal part of it. Don't fall for the republicans' bullshit on this one. They're fighting for big business and big business only. This isn't the Christian thing to do, and it's not in your best interest.
