Abortion - It's Time to Stop Being Stupid

Yeah, we get it, you're hardcore. You don't compramise your beliefs because you know you're right, and we're all very proud of your integrity. But you see, we're adults, and thus pissing and moaning at each other and calling each other names is not how we deal with contraversial issues.

When it comes down to it, I'm pro-choice. But that's irrelevent.

Just about half of this nation believes that a fetus is a living, breathing human being, who's life is just as sacred as any other. Half this nation believes that a fetus isn't alive on the same level as post-birth human beings, and protecting fetuses should not eclipse a woman's right to choose what to do with her body.

And what's the debate sounded like?
Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble!

And not one, NOT ONE fucking politician has stood up and pointed out that this entire debate is fucking pointless, because outlawing abortion won't stop abortion. To say that is like saying "No one smokes weed cause it's illegal", bullshit. When there's a demand, there will be a supply, this has been proven OVER and OVER again, and yet you retards just keep telling yourself "This one's different. This one's got MORALS behind it!"

You know, I really don't know if a fetus is alive at the same level I am now. But then again I feel a lot more alive now than I did when I was four, so does that mean it would've been better to kill me then than to kill me now?
There is the argument that life is cheap at that point, because there's nothing invested in it, and I think this argument is interesting. There's one issue I have with it. People regularly view the most tragic death is the death of a child, but by the logic of this argument lead to the most tragic death being in someone's mid 20's? (Funny, that's also the age of people we send to war!)

But what if a fetus is alive at the same level as I am? What if I'm wrong about my moral assessment of abortion? Do I really want that on my conscience?

And so I've come to the conclusion that both sides should be catered to. Abortions very well may be wrong, but we have absolutely no place telling a woman what she does with her body! And there's a relatively simple answer (note the word relatively, considering we're talking about a debate that hasn't gone ANYWHERE in 30 years!)

If you look at statistics:
http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/aboramt.html
abortion rates dropped the most and got to their lowest since 1978 under Bill Clinton. That's right, that baby killing ammoral son of a bitch you people who can't read love to hate helped the pro-life cause practically more than Ronald Reagan or George HW Bush (and although I haven't seen the stats on George W. Bush, I doubt his numbers are better than Clinton's either).

This is he addressed the issues that led to women having abortions. Having an abortion is not an easy decision by any means, all of my friends that had them, some of the most pro-choice people I know, really had to wrestle with all sorts of emotions and felt terrible about their decisions. No woman likes having abortions. But in a lot of cases the alternatives are far worse, and that's what we can change.

http://www.abortiontv.com/Misc/AbortionStatistics.htm
Reasons Women Choose Abortion (U.S.)

Wants to postpone childbearing: 25.5%
Wants no (more) children: 7.9%
Cannot afford a baby: 21.3%
Having a child will disrupt education or job: 10.8%
Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy: 14.1%
Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy: 12.2%
Risk to maternal health: 2.8%
Risk to fetal health: 3.3%
Other: 2.1%

21.3% of abortions (that was about 260,000 in 2001) happened because the woman could not afford a baby. Poverty is something we can do something about. I'm not all about the government stepping in that much on this, but I'll tell ya it's a far more christian thing to dedicate all of the effort you pro-lifers dedicate to fighting abortion to fighting poverty, and you'll prevent a hell of a lot more abortions than you ever will holding up huge pictures of aborted fetuses over the fucking highway.

12.2% (156,000 in 2001) of women having an abortion list the PRIMARY reason that they're having an abortion is their parents or others objecting to the pregnancy. That's right, you holier than thou bastards who claim to do God's work but just walk around doing exactly what Jesus told the pharisees NOT to do, condemning those in need of support, cause about 156,000 abortions anually. That's some fine work you're doing!

I don't know if I'm somehow no longer a member of the pro-choice community because I'm tossing up ideas on how to prevent abortions, but I would NEVER condemn a woman for having an abortion. I think it's a far tougher decision than I've ever had to make about anything, and the least I can do is to respect that decision.
But let's stop being retarded about this. If you're opposed to abortion, I'm sorry, but voting for any douchebag who says he's pro-life isn't enough. All you're doing is fucking yourself and your cause. There isn't a goddamn politician in this nation that could look you in the eye and honestly tell you that he's done a goddamn thing to make abortion any less legal, and certainly the majority of the republican party, who use this as their bread and butter, can claim that they've done anything to prevent any abortions.
